District 22, Summerside - St. Eleanors
Gerard Greenan
Gerard Greenan was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island in the provincial general election of 2007 representing District 22, Summerside-St.Eleanors. He was re-elected in October, 2011.
He served as Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development and Attorney General from June, 2007 until January, 2010. He presently serves on the following committees: Standing Committee on Health, Social Development and Seniors, Standing Committee on Community and Intergovernmental Affairs, and Standing Committee on Public Accounts. He chairs the Standing Committee on Education and Innovation and has been appointed to serve on Treasury Board.
Mr. Greenan grew up in Charlottetown and has lived in Summerside since 1973. He holds Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees from the University of Prince Edward Island and a Master of Education degree from Acadia University.
Mr. Greenan enjoyed an educational career of 32 years with experience as a classroom teacher, school counsellor, vice principal and principal at several schools. He is an active member of his community in church, the Rotary Club, East Prince Hospice and the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club. He continues to be an active volunteer at many events.
Mr. Greenan’s other interests include travel and spending time with family. He and his wife Elizabeth have two adult sons, Jonathan and Mark.

Our Liberal Team has worked to strengthen our economy and provide quality education and healthcare to all Islanders. I am proud to be part of the Liberal team that:
- CONSTRUCTED a new gymnasium for Elm Street School and performed other renovations for the school
- PROVIDED affordable housing for our seniors and continually works on improving the units available for seniors
- RELOCATED the Department of Education to Summerside
- ASSISTED with renovations to Air Force Association of Canada Wing and Royal Canadian Legion
