Liberal Backgrounder on Best Start
The Liberal Government’s yearly funding of the Best Start Program is a key element of its early years strategy. Over the last 4 years, approximately $4 million has been invested in this program.
Best Start is an initiative that began in 1999. It consists of a province-wide in-home visiting program that focuses on children from birth to twenty four months of age.
The program consists of Public Health Nurses throughout the Island undertaking screening and assessment for newborn infants and their families to identify those who would benefit from in-home visiting support.
Following the initial assessment, Best Start employees provide a weekly in-home support program to participants through Family Resource Centres located throughout Prince Edward Island.
